My Kingdom For a Horse!

Well, not anymore!

Heard the news today that, as of patch 3.2 the whole mount system is getting changed. 60% mounts will be attainable at level 20, 100% mounts at level 40 and the former 60% flying mounts, which are getting increased to 150%, at level 60.

Wow!

Having read through various comments and forums posts from WoW players this seems to have been met with mixed reactions. The casual player is exceptionally happy about this as they're getting made cheaper and they can be gotten hold of earlier. A lot less running is on the cards. However, the nostalgic player who pines for the days of level 60 end game and gold gold as a precious commodity is up in arms. Apparently this is yet more evidence of Blizzard making things easy for the "whining casuals".

As far as I'm concerned this is a great thing. I've played ever since vanilla WoW and, while I didn't make it to level 60 before TBC, I went through the hard grind for what was the level 40 mount back then, not to mention all the running around before that. I have also levelled several characters up, including a couple more level 80s, through the old world content ans quite frankly it gets annoying having to make such long trips around Azeroth on foot.

As for the whiners, it's a game. Yes you have to earn certain things, but the earlier levels shouldn't feel like a boring endless grind, especially for new players. New players have a lot further to go nowadays to reach the same place most everyone else has. It seems only logical to make the level grind a little more tolerable for them so that they enjoy the game more, stick to it and eventually hit that golden 80. The fact is that there's plenty to do as a level 80 and having more people get there is only going to be beneficial for those people who want to run heroics, raids, battlegrounds, arenas and whatnot. It's better than having a lack of people and not being able to do these things. So please, drop the elitist attitude and just enjoy the game for what it is. A game.

Anyway, excuse my little rant there, but it was something I needed to get off my chest.

'Til next time :)

  1. I for one am in favour of this change, level 60 is no longer the final target - there's another 20 slow levels after that. Making players take longer to level simply by making them spend time running, running, running is no longer appropriate.

I think we shouldn't speed up the leveling process too too much, we still have to learn how to use the spells, but that isn't happening while running around.

  2. We're in complete agreement. Levelling is at a good pace now for learning to play your class before end-game, but you hardly learn anything when running from one end of the continent to another :)
